There will be a new chief at Seattle Grace Hospital when Grey’s Anatomy returns this fall as Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) has stepped down. Who will be the new chief? Read on.
According to TVGuide.com, the Chief is taking responsibility for Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) switching the placebo for the real drug in Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) Alzheimer’s clinical trial. And that is not unreasonable as it was the Chief who begged Meredith to do everything she could for Adele (Loretta Devine), his wife, who was diagnosed when Meredith noticed she was having memory issues.
Now the TV website is reporting that Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) will oversee the surgery staff.
“[Dr. Webber] has already had enough as Chief,” McKidd tells TVGuide.com. “He goes back to being an attending surgeon in the hospital. He gives Owen the job, and Owen is as shocked as everybody else, so it changes the whole structure of the hospital. Richard becomes like the all-seeing oracle, because he has all this knowledge. He’s now a normal doctor, but everybody still comes to him. Owen, even though he’s the Chief, comes to Richard a lot.”
All the action begins when Grey’s Anatomy returns for its new season on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
