Former Biggest Loser contestant Sam Poueu, who fell from the roof of a four-story apartment building in San Francisco on September 3, is out of intensive care and his condition is improving. Poueu’s family and his fiancee Stephanie Anderson’s family confirmed the good news to people.com.
“We are excited to share that Sam is out of ICU and is currently in stable condition,” the families told the magazine. “He still has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but we are so encouraged by the progress he continues to make daily.”
The families added that Poueu, who has undergone three surgeries to treat internal injuries and head trauma, “is talking and visiting with family members and close friends, who come to see him in the hospital, and is so grateful, as are we, for all the love, support and prayers he has received.”
Poueu, who had been working as a trainer at the Biggest Loser Fitness Ridge Resort in Malibu, Calif., since competing on season 9 of the hit show, took his tragic fall while trying to climb down a fire escape at a friend’s apartment building, after getting locked out on the rooftop.
Poueu is engaged to Anderson, who he met while competing on The Biggest Loser. The couple plan to wed in spring 2012.
Fans who wish to support Poueu in his recovery can do so by going to his Facebook fan page. A trust has been set up where people can send donations to help with his needs as he embarks on the long road to a full recovery.
