It was a Survivor first on Wednesday night’s episode of Survivor: Redemption Island when legendary villain Russell Hantz had his torch snuffed for the very first time.
Russell has successfully played the game twice before and made it to the final three each time, but never been awarded the $1 million prize by the other castaways despite being a great — if villainous — game player.
But last night, Russell’s Zapatera Tribe, following the urging of ex-NFL player Steve Wright, decided to throw the Immunity Challenge for the express purpose of voting Russell out of the tribe.
Of course, with this season’s new twist in which tribe members who are voted out go to Redemption Island and have the opportunity to stay in the game if they can keep winning challenges against other voted out players, Russell is not completely out of the game.
But Russell’s track record for winning Immunity Challenges isn’t stellar. Tune in to next week’s Survivor when Matt Elrod and Russell will face off to see who will win the Redemption Island duel.
Survivor: Redemption Island airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
