The downsizing of the American Idol Top 13 went quicker than expected as first this week, Jermaine Jones was disqualified for legal reasons.
Then tonight, Shannon Magrane was given her walking papers by Ryan Seacrest after she received the fewest votes among the finalists, who this week sang songs from the year they were born. Magrane performed Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s One Sweet Day, but the judges refused to use their one save of the season to keep her in the competition.
Also on the results show, Demi Lovato sang her latest hit Give Your Heart A Break and Daughtry returned to the Idol stage and performed its megahit Outta My Head.
Next week, the Top 10 — DeAndre Brackensick, Hollie Cavanagh, Colton Dixon, Heejun Han, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Elise Testone and Erika Van Pelt — will take to the stage to perform songs of Billy Joel.
