The heat is on the three remaining couples competing to win this season’s Dancing with the Stars championship. But Maksim Chmerkovskiy has a plan to win over the judges and the voters with his and partner Kirstie Alley’s upcoming freestyle dance: he’s going to center their routine on Alley’s real-life personal struggle. Namely, the highs and lows the former Cheers star has experienced over the years.
“I think we’re just going to depict her story on the show – like, life transformation kind of thing. It will be fun,” Chmerkovskiy told accesshollywood.com.
That transformation, of course, centers around Alley’s battle of the bulge – her weight gain, various attempts to take it off in the public eye, and finally making serious progress via her new diet plan, Rescue Me, and grueling dance rehearsals.
Chmerkovskiy believes his partner has what it takes to win the trophy. She’s worked hard and totally devoted herself to the Dancing with the Stars process.
“I think [Kirstie] is probably the most deserving [of the title] because of the transformation she went through,” said Chmerkovskiy. “It was a life-changing experience for her. She did come back to life… she’s just a different person.”
Alley and Chmerkovskiy will battle Hines Ward and Kym Johnson and Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas on Dancing with the Stars Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
