In an attempt to boost ratings, Days of our Lives is making sweeping cast changes. Fan favorites Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John) are coming back to the NBC soap this summer. So is Matthew Ashford (Jack), who’ll be injected into Jennifer and Daniel’s blossoming romantic story line. To make room for the returnees, the show is cleaning house.
“I was told that the show is going back to ‘core values,’ whatever that means. The Bradys and the Hortons, I guess,” Louise Sorel (Vivian) told TV Guide.
Sorel and Crystal Chappell (Carly) have already been let go. Chappell’s contract expires in August, while Sorel’s is up in mid-September. Setside sources report that four other actors will be joining them on the unemployment line, momentarily.
Sorel joked that perhaps she was “a financial trading card” so Days could afford Hall, Hogestyn and company. “Although I’ve been making almost nothing,” said the actress. “A third of what I was making during my first time on the show.”
No official last air dates have been released regarding Chappell and Sorel, nor have Hall, Hogestyn and Ashford’s return dates been announced at press time.
