Opening up his life to television cameras has been a learning experience for Days of our LivesGalen Gering (Rafe), who’s going primetime in the new E! reality series Dirty Soap. The show debuts on September 25 at 10:00 p.m.

“Parts of it I like. Parts of it are invasive,” concedes Gering.  “I don’t always want a camera [following me around]. I don’t always want to come to work [at Days] either. I don’t always want to go to the gym. That’s just part of life, right? But it’s been fun.”

Dirty Soap also stars Days of our LivesNadia Bjorlin (Chloe), her boyfriend Brandon Beemer (Owen, The Bold and the Beautiful), General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco (Sam) and Kirsten Storms (Maxie), and One Life to Live lovebirds Farah Fath (ex-Gigi) and J.P. Lavoisier (Rex). The show, which is being executive produced by Amber Mazzola and former All My Children stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the personal and professional lives of soap opera actors.

“Obviously the concept is just to go about your life, because your life is so great that they’re filming it and it’s just going to make this incredible show,” cracks Gering. “With that said, I try to forget the cameras are even there. Sometimes I’m better at it than others. It’s a trip.”

One of those “better” moments was when an E! crew filmed Gering hosting an Acme Saturday Night standup comedy show in Los Angeles.

“That was the first principle day of shooting,” notes Gering. “It was fun. I was really happy about how that turned out.”

The E! crew has also been tailing Gering and the rest of the Dirty Soap cast on their respective soap sets as well as at home. For Gering it’s meant “scenes” with his wife, Jenna, and their two sons, Dillon, 5, and Jensen, 3. So how are the kids liking it?

“They’re enjoying it, but they don’t really have a choice in the matter,” chuckles Gering. “I threw them under the bus.”

While Dirty Soap hasn’t given Gering a new perception about reality TV –- “I don’t know that I had a perception about it going in,” he says –- he does admit to watching the genre.

“I’ve seen Jersey Shore a few times, and there are great shows on E!” says Gering. “Like those Kardashian shows. How do you not watch that? Dirty Soap is going to be incredible. There will be dirt in it.”
