With the only save of the season used by the judges for Casey Abrams last week on American Idol, the vote is the vote – even if America gets it wrong.
But they really didn’t. The bottom three on Elton John week consisted of Paul McDonald, Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia.
Then host Ryan Seacrest sent Paul back to safety and the two women, who had both been in the bottom before, were sent home. But the good news is they will get to tour this summer.
Naima, who was a judges add to the Top 13, had her problems with the vote, but this week, she turned Elton’s I’m Still Standing into a reggae number and didn’t get much love from the judges.
Earlier in the season, Thia’s vocal quality was compared to that of Michael Jackson, but that wasn’t enough to keep her safe when her performances were lacking. And then, as I mentioned last week, there is the problem of her age and not having enough experience to wow the audience.
American Idol returns on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on FOX when the Top 9 perform songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame accompanied by legendary rock guitarist Jeff Beck, who will be performing with Ray Chew and the American Idol band.
